How to apply 2

Step 4: Getting chosen by the Jury

A Jury will meet in January 2010 to decide upon who of you will come to the Aachen conference.
The Jury will consist of members of the Organisation Team, the Moderation Team and representatives of the City of Aachen and RWTH Aachen University.

The following criteria will be applied:

Posting:
Activity – the number of points (Ranking)
Quality – style, relevance and method of postings

The Jury will decide upon a final ranking, in which the quality is taken into account. How to achieve quality in postings is described in Netiquette&Discussion Guideline. Since no forum software can measure 'quality', it is the intended purpose of the Jury to do so.

Geographic Distribution
The more different countries, the better: we want the ESP, and the Aachen Declaration respectively, to be a European project. Thus, only a maximum of two groups of pupils per country will be chosen.
The geographical distribution will also be taken into account in the selection of the other applicants.

Eligibility of groups
A group of pupils is eligible to be chosen if at least three of the members' activity points and quality of postings compete in the final ranking mentioned above. These members can be pupils or teachers.

What if I am not chosen?
The ESP will still have something to offer to you and something to ask of you. Please read on.

Step 5: Preparatory online stage

In the time between the choice of the Jury, and the conference, there will be a lot to do.
Once we have the complex issue of 'water' roughly outlined, a choice needs to me made about which parts are important enough to be part of the Aachen Declaration. The extremely widespread discussions need to be sorted out, confirmed by quotes and substantiated and assigned to one of the subtopics, while the latter may even be rearranged if necessary.

Good that we still have the help of the whole community to do so.

The aim of this stage is to finally have a number of issues, each representing an important aspect of, solution to or specification of a water related problem in Europe and the World.

These issues are sorted into subtopics, each representing one working group during the conference.

The best part is that all who help during the process will have learned quite a bit about the issue by now.
